According to the 2015 vision EHTE aims to become the leading hospitality and tourism education center and the recognized center for research in tourism, accommodation and catering fields in Estonia. Thanks to being located in Tallinn, our very close links with the tourism sector and the high concentration of companies and decision-makers in the sector in Tallinn is not only our competitive advantage, but also a huge challenge as EHTE is expected to provide the key stakeholders in question with the research and development activities. In addition to the external goals and expectations we need to engage in research and development work as the part of our school's inner development objective – to shift from the Estonia-driven vocational training stage towards the applied higher and international education. The current goal - EHTE is a respected provider in the field of applied research in Estonia – has so far been met mostly by the students’ thesises. This work will continue by meeting the sector's needs even more. In addition to that project-based development and research activities will be launched both in content and in form beyond the school walls by involving various partners both in Estonia and abroad. We put more emphasis on the applicable nature of the present outcome, but aspire at the same time towards the more academic and scientific approach as well. As a result, by 2015 EHTE should operate systematic research activities based on the principles of applied science. Geographically our main focus is on the Baltic Sea Region, namely the central part of it, as Tallinn is located at the intersection of the axes Helsinki-Riga and Stockholm-St.Petersburg. Thus we expect to find our main foreign partners in development and research activities from Finland, Sweden, Latvia and Russia. Our geographical reach will be expanded towards the west (for example partners in UK) to learn from their experience and to transfer it towards the east (former Soviet republics) along with our own know-how.
